Just installed Five, first time startup fails

Hi,
please help.
I have just installed Five and trying to start it for the first time but the startup screen only appears for a few seconds, disappears and nothing happens. I do not reach the screen where the serial number should be entered.
From the SQL log file I see the following error message:
2023-03-12T15:55:43.580045Z 0 [System] [MY-010116] [Server] C:\Program Files\Five Software\Five Desktop\MySQL\bin\mysqld.exe (mysqld 8.0.29) starting as process 15168

Hi Lars,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble installing Five, we are happy to assist you so you can get Five up and running as soon as possible. We suspect you may have some strong security or anti-virus software preventing Five from running due to the fact the Data Dictionary is failing to be created. Are you able to have a look at the Windows logs in your Event Viewer under Application and Security Events to see if you can see any reason why this is happening that you may be able to resolve, otherwise we are happy to do have a Zoom session to have a look with you?

Hi Jo-Anne,

thanks for your message, much appreciated.

unfortunately, I am still struggling to get Five up and running. Below is the result from Event Viewer → Application. The Security events do not show any events that matches the time of starting Five and all Keywords = Audit success.

Log Name: Application

Let me one more round of troubleshooting and if that does not bring a positive result then it would be great to have a Zoom session.

Kind Regards,

Lars

No problems Lars, please let me know if it still does not work for you and I’ll organise a Zoom session with our tech support.

Hi Jo-Anne,
I give up / running out of ideas why I cannot start the Five application. Therefore, could you please setup a Zoom session?
Best time for me would around 22:00 CET (Central European Time), any day that suits your calendar (incl. weekends)
Kind Regards,
Lars Jorgensen

Hi Lars,

Sorry to hear you are still experiencing troubles. I have now emailed you to set up a zoom session so we can sort this out for you.

Finally got the installation to work
How did I do it? The oldest trick in the IT book, reinstallation :slightly_smiling_face:

Here is what i did.

Tried to install the community version of MySQL that we downloaded last night.

First attempt did not work, it required an installation of Visual Studio 2019 (I got 2022 install)

Second attempt to install MySQL went OK (still got the error message missing Visual Studio but I ignored that) and everything seemed to be installed correctly.

Started Five again, failed in the same way as last night.

uninstalled Five and reinstalled it.

Opened Five and the design screen opened with the Default Application. Now I was able to change the Title of the application. This was the step that failed last night with the database error.

Not sure exactly where the trick was but get MySQL installed independently of the Five installation seems to be the trick for me.

This is so good to hear Lars, now you can start using Five!
